Travel Shot: San Antonio Riverwalk at Night
The biggest draw for many visitors who come to San Antonio is the Riverwalk, especially at night. During our first night in San Antonio, we ate at a restaurant called La Gloria, which happened to be about a 45 minute walk from our hotel.
We took a cab on the way there since our hotel concierge advised us that it was too far to walk. Luckily, our server at La Gloria informed us that the best way to get back to downtown was, in fact, taking a late night stroll on the Riverwalk.
What a fun way to experience our first night in a new city.

San Antonio’s most popular attraction, the River Walk (nicknamed the ‘Venice of Texas’) is a park and walkway along the San Antonio River that is full of bars, boutique stores, art, eateries, and street art. A pedestrian-only route, the walk runs for 15 miles in total, and in my experience was a completely relaxing way to see the city by foot.
The walk is divided into The Museum Reach, The Downtown Reach, and the Mission Reach, and is the place to be for a relaxing stroll, catching a boat ride, or simply having a drink on a patio.
The Museum Reach is a 1.33 mile walk that will lead you to the San Antonio Zoo, Brackenridge Park, The Witte Museum, The Doseum, the San Antonio Museum of Art, and the Japanese Tea Gardens. Whatever your museum style, this walk will take you there.
The Mission Reach is an 8 mile walk that is part of the San Antonio Missions Trail, home to four 18th century Missions – Mission San Jose, Mission Cenception, Mission San Juan and Mission Espada. This is also a beautiful place to come and enjoy nature.
The Downtown Reach is the section to go if you want restaurants, bars, nightlife, and shopping.
Seriously, the activity opportunities here are endless, it all depends on your personal taste!

I have been wanting to visit San Antonio. I heard that Riverwalk is such a romatic and cute place to take a stroll at. You’re picture proves it all.
Even visitors who have seen the old Riverwalk will be amazed by the new parts–stretching north towards the Pearl Brewery and south toward the Missions–it’s not all restaurants and bars anymore!
You are right about that! We walked for quite a ways without seeing a single restaurant and bar. There was some cool artwork though!

Actually, we weren’t extremely impressed with the food at La Gloria, but it may have just been the things we ordered. The service was great though. We ate at a few places that we loved and are putting together a post with info on those.
Oh TEXAS how I miss YOU!!! I’m from Houston, TX just 2hrs down the road from San Antonio… and on long weekends or when we wanted to party hard we would head down to San Antonio… I’ve been so many times and even though it’s a city I know I couldn’t live in I know I could visit so many more times in my life. So much to do and see there. The river walk is so beautiful with so much going on.Â
It sounds like a fun place to grow up and 2 hours isn’t bad!
I love the colorful umbrellas and the shining water. I would love a walk along the river! Cabs are only for when you are in a rush or in a shady area, walking is where it is at.
I hear ya. I guess we were in somewhat of a hurry on the way there because we were hungry. 🙂 But the walk back was perfect!
